You had us at “hello.” Whether you’re writing a speech, a blog post or a video script, you are able to capture the attention of your audience, and show them what Vancity is all about. You draw out the personal experiences, heartwarming anecdotes and compelling facts that will help people understand the impact a credit union can make. You connect the dots and help us demonstrate how we “Make you good money by putting money to good.” 

 

In this communications specialist role, you’ll do that by running our speakers bureau, writing stories about Vancity business members who are creating positive impact in our communities, and monitoring media stories to understand issues affecting our communities. You’ll help out with the Good Money blog, Vancity reports and any communications project we throw at you in this fast-paced, highly productive communications department.

 

You’re curious about people and passionate about your craft. You hate corporate speak, acronyms and anything that would cause your audience or speaker to stumble over words. You won’t settle for anything but true authenticity. You’re so organized your files are colour-coded and alphabetical. You can whistle and hum at the same time (or multi-task in more practical ways). And it would be a bonus if you were a morning person.

The Specialist Communications reports directly into the Manager Communications (External).

Mandate Statement:

Vancity's communications programs will be planned and executed enabling the achievement of business objectives.

Key areas of accountability for this role are:

  • Develop communications plans to define business and communication objectives, key audiences, situation analysis, strategy, tactics and measurement to optimize Vancity communications.

  • Research, write, edit, and provide recommendations to publish materials to enable the execution of communications plans.

  • Liaise with executive, external and internal stakeholders in the development and execution of communcication materials.

  • Assist the communications team in creating and maintaining content in internal and external Vancity channels.

  • Plan and coordinate logistics for organization wide events and meetings.

  • Conduct media monitoring, and assist in gathering and analyzing data to measure effectiveness of media plan and other communications plans.
