The Kelberman Center Behavior Specialist Assistant works directly with students with ASD providing academic, social, and behavioral support and uses methods of applied behavior analysis (ABA) to increase skill level and decrease challenging behaviors of students with ASD. The Behavior Specialist Assistant assists with development, implementation, and evaluation of behavior support plans, records data on academic, social, and behavioral goals, completes required documentation, and participates in Agency activities.

• Provide direct instruction on IEP goals and objectives using ABA methodology, based on the level of need of the student
• Collect and maintain data on academic, social, and behavioral goals
• Assist with transitions of students
• Assist with educational, social, and behavioral assessment of students
• Follow behavioral support plan and use methods of ABA and PSP to decrease challenging behaviors of students
• Provide 1:1 support to a student when needed
• Complete all required documentation according to the agency’s program regulations.
• Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, trainings, and committees
• Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Agency’s culture, values and mission.
• Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and Agency regulations and operating standards.
• Minimum of Bachelors degree in field of psychology
• Minimum of 12 months of paid or unpaid experience in a program or setting supporting persons with developmental disabilities
• Valid Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCABA) certificate preferred
• Understanding of the characteristics of persons with autism, behavior management, and physical aggression of person with autism and cognitive delays
• Basic Computer Skills (Windows, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel)
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the specific job
• This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OMRDD (Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities) or OMH (Office of Mental Health)
• Must have a valid New York State Driver’s License
