Description Position Summary:
This Principal Mechanical Engineer will lead mechanical engineering activities on a major development program. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the mechanical design and integration from feasibility through production launch. This position will support the roll-out of best practices at NxStage and will be a resource for consulting on other projects and new technologies as needed. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Function head.
Core Responsibilities:
• Champion major projects, or phases of projects, to resolve advanced and complex technical problems
• Create requirements and specification documents to allow vendors to develop and produce devices for NxStage
• Champion Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities to ensure process shortcomings are identified and appropriately addressed
• Mentor the product development team in the adoption and use of best practices and design methodologies
• Design-in manufacturability, testability, serviceability, and reliability, debug new designs, and develop reliability improvements.
• Provide technical leadership for product engineering, design development, integration, test and evaluation
• Investigate and advise management on the feasibility of new projects, systems or approaches
• Work with vendors to ensure that NxStage products and components are manufactured to specifications
• Develop and support complex automated and semi-automated assembly and test equipment
Requirements Requirements:
Mechanical:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering
• MS in Mechanical Engineering desired
• 10+ years’ experience in electro-mechanical product design
• Advanced understanding of product and process development of medical devices is preferred
• Advanced knowledge of CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping process
• Advanced understanding of diverse manufacturing processes including machining, sheet-metal, injection molding, and castings
• Advanced experience with system design, electronics, and software integration
• Technical understanding of product development methodologies, design and imple
