POSITION PURPOSE

*** This is a home based role with 50% travel within the Central states. Candidate can be based in any major city near an airport in IL, IN, WI, TN, ND, SD, MN, NE, KS, KY, IA ***


The Clinical Science Liaison (CSL) is accountable for the infection prevention efforts at PDI, and serves in a consultant role to educate and support fellow infection preventionists and others regarding identification of infectious disease process, surveillance and epidemiologic investigation, and preventing and controlling the transmission of infectious organisms. The CSL participates in local, regional and national professional meetings to promote the science of Infection Prevention; participates in infection prevention education, research and publications; serves as a subject matter expert for both internal and external customers regarding environment of care including cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization, interventional care including asepsis and patient care including hand hygiene; and identifies and communicates with key thought leaders and organizations involved in infection prevention and control.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Serve as primary Infection Preventionist consultant with colleagues within established territory
Schedule and perform in-service and continuing education promoting the science of infection prevention to customers regarding environment of care, interventional care, and patient care
Contribute clinical and scientific content expertise to the development and execution of PDI’s regional and national educational activities
Develop and manage relationships and infection prevention programs with key national accounts
Develop scientific advocates through clinical thought leader recruitment  Support sales and marketing efforts through dissemination and education of scientific and pertinent research information on prevention/controlling transmission of infectious agents
Attend local, regional and national meetings as time permits or assigned by the Director, Clinical Affairs
Attend Company meetings and other scientific conferences as requested to support the business
Keep abreast of new developments in trends or changes in infection prevention and control
Other duties as assigned by Director, Clinical Affairs
Requirements EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or infection prevention related field or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred. Certification in infection control and epidemiology (CIC) highly desired.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Clinical science contained in peer-reviewed publications
Abstract development/research promoting science of infection prevention and epidemiology
Adult learning principles and management/communication skills
Clinical microbiology and infectious disease transmission
Healthcare segments and regulatory/accreditation standards
Patient care processes
Patient safety initiatives at federal/state/local levels
Environment of care
Cleaning, sterilization, disinfection, and asepsis principles
Surveillance and epidemiologic investigation skills

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 
At least three (3) years recent infection preventionist experience in a healthcare setting or related clinical experience.  Presenter of continuing education (CE) programs to various audiences

SKILLS/ABILITIES: 
Proficient computer skills required. Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and web search  Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills  Excellent time management skills  50% travel
