The Scientist I position is key member of the PDI organization and the R&D Environment of Care Product development team. This individual will assist product development scientists in formulating, batching and monitoring the stability of EPA-registered surface disinfectant products. Key focus areas will include sample preparation for microbial efficacy testing and product development activities focused on new product development and product improvements.

The candidate will assist in the compilation and maintenance of product design history files (DHF).

The position will require cross-functional interaction, communication, and partnership with cross functional team members, especially Packaging, Nonwovens, Analytical, Microbiology, Regulatory and Manufacturing teams to ensure critical milestones are completed and deliverables met.


a. Basic formulation knowledge and good understanding of chemical interactions.
b. Ability to follow manufacturing instructions for lab-scale formulations with minimal guidance.

a. Batching of lab-scale surface disinfectant formulations.
b. Setting up and monitoring stability studies for lab-scale and production trial samples of surface disinfectant formulations.
c. Strong observational skills and timely communication of progress and results.
d. Maintain an accurate laboratory notebook.
• Tests products and prototypes, comparing to benchmarks or competitor products, makes product samples for marketing presentations, laboratory evaluation, consumer and clinical testing
• Analyzes data and prepares technical reports and summaries
• Supports product scale up and line trials and writes trial reports
• Develops and validates test methods to evaluate performance of products and prototypes
• Writes SOPs and specifications
• Analyses competitor products and evaluates raw materials used
• Makes recommendations to management on direction for prototype development
• Plans own workload to ensure tasks and objectives are completed

• University Degree in Science or Engineering required
• Masters an advantage

Previous experience in a R&D lab is required

1 - 3 years of work experience in a R&D laboratory.
Previous experience with wipes is advantageous.
Experience with EPA-registered products is a plus.

• Work with R&D scientists to support key projects through the product development process.
• Ability to batch lab-scale quantities of specified formulations.
• Ability to work on multiple projects of varying complexity.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Team player.
• Good organizational skills and time management skills.
• Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records including laboratory notebooks.
• Work with R&D scientists on the compilation and maintenance of product Design History Files (DHF).
• Computer literate (Outlook/Word/PowerPoint/Excel).
• Follow safety and lab maintenance procedures.

EXPECTATIONS: About 70% Lab and 30% office environment
