Description Role and Responsibilities:
Fairway Market wants to ensure that all of our customers are receiving the best shopping experience each time they walk into our store. We are looking to hire an energetic Produce Picker that will be working at our Production Center in the Bronx. The Produce Picker is an integral part of the Fairway Market experience. As a Produce Picker, you will be providing exceptional customer service while supplying and replenishing a wide variety of produce items. The following are role and responsibilities of the Produce Picker position:
Department-specific Responsibilities:
• Will utilize requisitions and order sheets to pick a wide variety of items, place and arrange items in containers and bins following specific instructions.
• Picker will check containers for damage, and confirm correct items and quantities are selected.
• Trim, cut or remove and shrink products that do not meet Fairway standards.
• Familiarize self with different fruits and vegetables in the department and recognize differences among similar products to better assist.
• Be knowledgeable with Organic and Non Organic products.
• Operate relevant equipment in a safe and productive manner.
• Assist in maintaining the department as 100% culled and ensure freshness as top priority.
• Loading and unloading trucks by using totes, jacks and forklifts.
• Keeping records of incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Picking orders as requested by management.
• Placing containers on pallets, and securing with stretch wrap, shrink wrap and strapping.
• Ensuring correct shipping information is attached and moving completed orders to shipping area.

General Responsibilities:
• Work collaboratively with fellow employees and managers and recognize teamwork and diversity
• Maintain a strong time and attendance record to ensure the smooth flow of departmental operations
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment by practicing high standards of food and human safety and sanitation techniques provided by Fairway work rules and policies and Health Department Regulations
• Replenish department supplies frequently to ensure efficiency of workflow and employee job tasks
• Adhere to all department-related and company-related work rules and policies while upholding Fairway’s core values of integrity, respect and excellence
• Perform miscellaneous roles assigned by management that would help the team on an as-needed basis
• Attend mandatory trainings and recognize and seek opportunities for continuous learning. Provide feedback to management to help improve operations
Requirements Candidates who apply for the Produce Clerk position must possess the following skills:
• Good working knowledge of food quality, hygiene and sanitation, kitchen safety and food preparation
• Strong Customer Service skills and ability to interact with other people and participate actively in department and staff meetings
• Strong teamwork and diversity awareness and ability to recognize and welcome differences among people and resolve conflicts respectfully and in a timely manner
• Organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize requests and department activities
• Proficient with using tools required for this position.
• Meet physical demands required for the position
• Ability to work harmoniously with diverse range of people.
• Effective communication skills and ability to read, write and comprehend English
• Must be at least 18 years of age to work in the department
• High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent
• 1+ year work experience in a similar role.
• Must be available to work both shifts- 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
• Availability to work weekends, holidays and other prime times of the business

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
• Frequent motions such as standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, lifting, and reaching
• Lifting up to 50lbs. and pushing and pulling carts up to 100lbs.
• Standing and walking for 4-6 hours at a time
• Exposure to various food allergens throughout the Production Center
