Position: Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Friday 7am-7pm

Location: Bethlehem, PA

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care within the RN scope of practice and under the guidance of the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Perform in depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients
  • Formulate collaborative and individualized plan of care and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process
  • Implement, evaluate, and document patient care interventions and effectiveness in accordance with care plan
  • Organize, coordinate, and prioritize patient care consistently utilizing available resources
  • Delegate certain aspects of patient care to non-licensed/ancillary personnel according to their skills, and the job specifications outlined in their job descriptions, scope of practice and competency
  • Demonstrate competency in and current knowledge of cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management, if appropriate to site
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to utilize equipment and supplies related to emergent patient care, for example:the defibrillator and crash cart
  • Respond to life-saving situations appropriately and according to the standards of BLS and ACLS protocols as well as hospital policy
  • Restock pharmacy supplies and unit supplies as needed
  • Maintain an awareness of unit budget
  • Function as a professional role model and resource person providing guidance to co-workers and technical staff
  • Demonstrate competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated
  • Act as a patient advocate by protecting the patient from incompetent, unethical and/or illegal practices
    • Question any care that appears inappropriate and/or substandard
    • Express concern to the person(s) carrying out the questionable practice
    • Report incompetent, unethical and/or illegal practices to their supervisors
    • Intervene appropriately to protect patient safety
  • Take active role in unit-based performance improvement and committees, as appropriate.
  • Maintain responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs
  • Comply with established chain of command for work related problems
  • Participate in identifying unit needs and supports unit goals and objectives that contribute to the growth of the department
  • In the event of an after-hours incident or facility emergency it will be the responsibility of the inpatient nursing to perform the following functions
    • Immediately ensure for the safety of patients as per the standards
    • Notify the Administrator on call of the issue
    • Assist with the direction of emergency personnel responding to the facility
  • In cases where any critical monitoring systems are not functioning, inpatient the nurse will initiate and oversee manual surveillance procedures which shall be documented and maintained as per the standards
  • Maintain departmental records for administrative and regulatory purposes
  • Collaborate with other caregivers to assure appropriate staffing levels on all shifts
  • Maintain confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network as well as the proper release of information
  • Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements
  • Demonstrate Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety
  • Demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices
  • Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code
  • Demonstrate competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated
  • Assist with pre-admission testing procedures and education as needed
  • Assume as needed charge nurse responsibilities which include:
    • Observe stage and duties performed in the absence of the director of nursing
    • Manage staffing issues as they arise
    • Manage patient care issues family concerns, ancillary staff issues as they arise
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to align with the company’s vision and goals
  • Assist the other departments with various projects on an as needed basis
  • Any other tasks or projects as assigned by supervision
  • May be required to rotate to other Coordinated Health locations as assigned.
Requirements

Experience, Knowledge, and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Graduate of an Accredited Professional Nursing Program
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current license to practice in the State of Pennsylvania or seeking Pennsylvania licensure through reciprocity
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Each campus may have cross-functioning requirements
  • Individualized orientation program for all areas

 

Employment Requirements

  • Complete HR annual mandatory education
  • Complete annual Mosby’s competencies
  • Complete TST form annually

 

Physical Requirements

  • Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time
  • Stand for up to 8 hours per day; 4 hours at a time
  • Walk up to 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time
  • Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 10 pounds
  • Frequently lift, carry and push objects up to 75 pounds
  • Transport patients weighing up to 250 pounds via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher with assistance when appropriate
  • Consistently pull up to 10 pounds
  • Frequently pull up to 250 pounds with assistance when appropriate
  • Frequently stoop and bend, crouch, kneel and climb
  • Frequently reach above shoulder level
  • Occasional crawling
  • Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch
  • Frequently finger and handle objects
  • Occasionally firmly grasp, twist, and turn objects with hands and fingers
  • Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, and high and low frequencies
  • Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual monotony (e.g. computer screen)
  • Must be able to regularly access and use general office equipment including phones, computers, copiers, etc.
  • Must be able to work in a busy, often distracting work environment that is generally climate controlled
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
