JOB SUMMARY

The College Bound Academic Advisor position is a part-time position reporting to the College Bound Coordinator of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana. The position will serve as a key staff member at the Main Club with responsibility of implementing the delivery of the College Bound program in the Teen Center and partnering schools. The College Bound Academic Advisor will work in concert with the College Bound Coordinator, Teen Mentor Professionals, and tutors to coordinate effective and consistent collaboration with students, parents, staff, volunteers and local high school counselors/personnel to ensure the quality of the College Bound program. This individual will help facilitate various group activities which meet the College Bound Program and site objectives of delivering high-quality college preparatory programming in a passionate and compelling manner. The College Bound Academic Advisor will review and monitor student academic progress and tutoring and identify appropriate interventions when necessary. Success will be measured by the achievement level of students in the College Bound Program, by the number and quality of workshops implemented, the number of members in the program, and by the quality of collaboration with families, staff and local school personnel.

 

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

·         Currently enrolled in College (minimum of 48 units) or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree in School Counseling preferred but not required.

·         A minimum of three year’s work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or non-profit agency planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of children and teens. (Preferred)

·         Strong interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to community and members from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds.

·         Knowledge of California high school graduation requirements, A-G requirements and other college/vocational school entry requirements.

·         Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive data and information.

·         Ability to work independently and in an undefined environment.

·         Ability to motivate, organize and supervise youth in a safe environment and manage behavior problems. Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications.

·         Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

·         Strong interest in education and impacting member learning in a positive manner.

·         Excellent planning and organizational skills.

·         Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

·         Proficiency in office-based computer programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, and Publisher).
