JOB SUMMARY

Scope and responsibilities The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors and is responsible for carrying out the Board-approved goals and objectives in context of the strategic plan and the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County. Collaborates with the Board of Directors in development of a strategic plan, establishing policies, and attaining/allocating resources. Provides direction to staff in carrying out the key roles assigned to them.

 

Key Roles

Leadership

·        Provide leadership and direction to ensure the effective operation and delivery of programs within the Club and community.

·        Support the organization’s mission, principles, and values.

·        Ensure an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes.

·        Ensure programs, services and activities that have clear goals and outcomes.

·        Ensure effective data collection, management, and analysis.

·        Ensure consistent approaches to member behavior management and child safety and security practices across multiple sites.

 

Strategic Planning

·        Implement a strategic planning process that results in the development and implementation of a quality strategic plan.

·        Gather and present data and materials that inform the strategic planning process.

·        Ensure and oversee the identification and evaluation of opportunities for improvement and advancement, and ensure implementation of related plans.

 

Board Development

·        Assist identification, recruitment, orientation, and development of effective Board members.

·        Help ensure active participation by Board members and support effective board roles and functioning in the areas of governance, strategy, and fundraising.

·        Oversee staff liaisons to Board committees to ensure they are provided with the information and support necessary to fulfill their objectives.

 

Resource Development

·        Ensure that the annual budget is funded and that the organization has adequate cash flow.

·        Ensure the development of an annual resource development plan that includes funding from a variety of sources through a variety of fund raising techniques.

·        Guide staff and volunteers performing resource development functions.

 

Resource Management

·        Ensure all necessary administrative, financial, and operational systems are in place to support effective operations.

·        Ensure the development, implementation and monitoring of the Club’s annual budget; oversee all finance functions.

·        Ensure the annual audit is conducted and Form 990 is completed.

·        Ensure the organization meets government, legal and licensing requirements.

·        Ensure productive and effective staff performance with clear goals and objectives in line with member needs and agency goals, and continuous quality improvement, and monitor and evaluate staff performance.

 

Program and Partnership Development

·        Ensure the development and implementation of a comprehensive Boys & Girls Program serving the needs and interests of Club members.

·        Ensure the development of community, agency, and government partnerships that advance the agency’s mission, goals, and objectives.

·        Develop myriad strategic alliances and partnerships with community leaders and local officials.

 

Marketing and Public Relations

·        Ensure the visibility of club programs, services and activities and maintain good public relations.

 

Requirements

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

·        Bachelor's Degree - Required - Master's Degree Preferred.

·        A minimum of five years’ experience in organizing programs and overseeing facility operations in a Boys & Girls Clubs, or a nonprofit agency, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, Staff, community groups, membership, and other related agencies.

·        Ability to oversee, direct, strengthen operations and manage staff in order to implement the goals and vision of the organization.

·        Excellent leadership, communication (oral and written), motivation, negotiation, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal skills.

·        Thorough knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of Boys and Girls Clubs, the principles and practices of managing non-profit organizations, and resource development activities and sources of funding.

·        Basic knowledge of asset management including financial resources and property.

·        Experience at overseeing multiple sites preferable.
