JOB SUMMARY

The Massachusetts Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs is a consortium of 42 Boys & Girls Club corporations that operate throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  The Alliance provides a unified voice for all Clubs in Massachusetts, as well as brand consistency and a partnership amongst the members. Altogether we serve 163,777 Club members in 82 Club sites. The Alliance was formed to deepen the impact and mission of Boys & Girls Clubs in communities across Massachusetts through communication, resource development and collaboration.

 

There has never been a time when the hope and opportunity that Boys & Girls Clubs offer has been more needed than now.  The demand for Boys & Girls Club programs has grown dramatically, and accordingly, so have the challenges facing our member Clubs. The Massachusetts Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs is seeking a qualified professional to coordinate statewide efforts and assist in raising significant operating support to impact more youth throughout the state.

 

Under the supervision of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, and in cooperation with the Office of Government Relations at BGCA, the Director is responsible for the coordination of all Alliance activities.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Coordinate Alliance Activities

  • Provide support and appropriate input to the Alliance Board of Directors and membership through Annual Meetings, board meetings and regular communication;
  • Ensure the effective and timely delivery of program outcomes and required reporting for projects funded through the Massachusetts Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs;
  • Develop and maintain day-to-day Alliance business processes to include state and federal filings, financial reporting, dues collection and reporting, distribution of funds, by-law requirements, etc;
  • Represent the MA Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs and deliver effective presentations and ongoing communication with potential funding sources and collaborators;
  • Gather information and solicit feedback from clubs on issues that are having an impact at the local level and report findings back to Board for action;
  • Develop, disseminate, collect and report all financial and program management requirements for funds received;
  • When directed, assist the Alliance’s lobbyist and BGCA Government Relations staff with member engagement and coordination of government relations activities;
  • Oversee any positions subsequently hired by the alliance including the Outcomes Performance Project Director to inform research questions and include most relevant information in communication and development activities;
  • Provide leadership and development of the Massachusetts Alliance’s strategic plan, in coordination with the Alliance Board;
  • Develop, implement and monitor the annual Alliance budget;
  • Align Alliance functions with BGCA priorities and opportunities through maintaining positive relationships with key BGCA departments including GR, Resource Development, Communications, POLD, and Planning and Measurement.

 

Meeting Management

  • Provide logistical support for the board of directors and lobbyist for our annual Legislative Luncheon and other statewide events;
  • Manage the annual Youth of the Year judging and annual recognition dinner;
  • Facilitate Executive Director roundtable meetings (currently 5 annually) and plan and facilitate Alliance Annual meetings (currently 2);
  • Provide timely meeting agendas, collaterals and minutes to Board, Members, and BGCA Alliance Services;
  • Create and maintain an annual calendar of cross-functional events to support Clubs

 

Fundraising

  • Identify funding sources with the potential to be shared with member organizations of the Alliance beyond the current state funding with particular emphasis on private and/or public, corporate, foundation and new diversified government opportunities;
  • Research, develop, write and submit compelling funding proposals;
  • Manage, steward, cultivate and expand our donors. Develop new corporate sponsorships by Fall 2018. Additional corporate sponsorship goals to be determined annually

 

  • Marketing and Public Relations
    Develop a communication strategy to ensure high level of engagement from  Boys & Girls Clubs in MA to build consensus on the Alliance’s strategic direction and ensure local needs are documented for technical assistance resource allocation;
  • Establish and implement: communication calendar/cadence and project management calendar to achieve annual strategic goals and objectives of the MA Alliance;
  • Create a multi- faceted internal and external marketing and communications strategy to advance the awareness of the impact of the Boys & Girls Clubs in the Massachusetts Alliance;
  • Create Alliance communication platforms including website, e-newsletters, print newsletters, press releases, and social media
  • Create, implement, lead or manage the MA Alliance’s social media strategy across multiple platforms;

 

Technical assistance to local clubs

  • Visit every member organization or attend a key organization function annually;
  • Provide technical assistance and support to local Boys & Girls Clubs in regards to state legislative and government stewardship and funding efforts;
  • Provide training and technical assistance to local Boys & Girls Clubs in an effort to ensure programmatic and fiscal compliance with government funding

 

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience including: knowledge of youth and family issues, building relationships and working with coalitions, understanding of resource development principals and best practices, working knowledge of State Government, integrating communications strategies and project management practices and managing  a board of directors.  The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of youth development and/or the Boys & Girls Club movement.
  • Demonstrated competence in written and verbal communication as well as listening skills; non-profit organizational planning and budgeting; negotiation and consensus building skills; strong interpersonal and human relations skills; strong organizational skills; proven success through effective grant writing; highly effective at multitasking and managing competing priorities; be a self-starter; strong board and committee management skills; demonstrated success in resource development; strong marketing skills; effective meeting facilitation and event management skills effective and persuasive presentation skills; and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • One plus years of documented success in creating a social media marketing strategy with the responsibility for daily management and maintenance.
  • The individual selected for this position must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or willing to relocate and will likely be home-based. They must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.  Travel is required of the position in support of Massachusetts Alliance organizations and to attend regional or national training opportunities.
