JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the coordination of Transportation for Club members from school, to field trips and other Club destinations. The coordinator will create and maintain the pick-up schedule and provide a safe, reliable, courteous and efficient transportation service for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica.

 

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities)

Leadership

  • Exemplify appropriate behavior and is a role model for participants; actively listens to all youth and shows patience, understanding and respect for others
  • Make ethical decisions and adhere to Organization’s Code of Ethics.
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Facilitate Transportation workshops and training sessions as required.

 

Supervision and Safety

  • Ensure all drivers operate vehicles safely and effectively in accordance with Club, county, and state laws/guidelines.
  • Establish clear routine inspection for all drivers to perform a pre and post-route vehicle check.
  • Report all irregularities in vehicle performance.
  • Immediately report all unusual incidents or accidents.
  • Assure compliance of the “No Smoking” or No Cell Phone Use while vehicle is in operation guidelines.
  • Drive vehicles over specified school routes or to specified destinations (e.g. Supervision)
  • Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal. Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.
  • Ensure productive and effective performance and to include volunteers and staff.

 

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Develop partnership with parents, community leaders and organizations.
  • Act as a liaison between Elementary Schools and the Club.
  • Represent the Club at necessary school meetings and functions.
  • Develop and implement a Tutoring program, in conjunction with the Director of Volunteers to ensure that there is a variety of qualified tutors.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, supervising members in program area.
  • Manage department and ensure a productive work environment, maintaining an inventory of all equipment and supplies in good order.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist in driving the Club’s vehicle as directed. Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in Club wide activity.
  • Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
  • Responsible for the organization, coordination, & implementation of the Education program, budget and essential reports.
  • Make ethical decisions and adhere to Organization’s Code of Ethics

 

Relationships

Internal: Maintain close daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advice, and counsel.

External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervises and motivates staff.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Ability to work weekends and evening as directed.
  • Possess a valid Red Cross certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must have a valid California Drivers’ License.

Job Type: Part-time Salary: $16.00 to $16.25 /hour
