JOB SUMMARY

As the birthplace of the Boys & Girls Clubs movement, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford (BGCH) has been at the forefront of youth development for more than 150 years. The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford is part of a national affiliation of local, autonomous organizations that work to provide safe and nurturing environments for children and teens to learn and grow. To better enrich the lives of children in the greater Hartford region, we offer programs and services in five core areas: character and leadership; education and career development; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness and recreation. In addition to these core focus areas, we also have an Early Childhood Learning Program to enrich the lives of youth ages 3-5 years old and a Teen Program exclusively for youth ages 13 to 18 years old. BGCH has the following club sites in Hartford: Asylum Hill Club, Trinity College Club, Southwest Club, Northwest Club, Bellizzi School, Capital Preparatory Magnet School, West Middle School and CT Juvenile Training School (Middletown).

Key Roles

  • Responsible for providing services to youth at the Connecticut Juvenile Training School under the direction of the Unit Director. This position will offer services to youth including assistance with meeting basic needs for housing, employment, education, and re-entry into the community.
  • Work closely with Department of Children & Families (DCF), community-based service providers, families and youth to ensure a comprehensive plan of care.
  • Deliver services that meet Club program goals and ensure the health and safety of members
  • Consult with parents, advocates, DCF, etc. concerning member and family challenges.
  • Maintain case records, appropriate documentation of activities, and collateral contacts
  • Review work and records of members in cohort to determine progress or necessity of changing assignments or security classification
  • Assist with, or prepares reports such as summaries in collaterals and narratives
  • Works with agencies and service providers to facilitate case coordination and information sharing
  • Refer clients to other agencies for services as appropriate
  • With the client, develop individualized treatment plans and evaluate client’s progress in achieving goals
  • Consult with appropriate staff (e.g., DCF, Substance Abuse Counselors, Clinical Specialist or Training Coordinator) on client treatment plans and progress
  • Maintain case records and other records as required
  • Responsible for working with other staff, consultants and referring agencies for the benefit of the client
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the facility director or administrative personnel
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Four year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience in social work, human services or related field
  • Minimum of two years work experience in a Boys and Girls Clubs or similar organization with planning and supervising activities based on the development needs of young people, or equivalent experience
  • Strong communication skills; oral, written, and presentation
  • Good computer skills, Microsoft Office required
  • Demonstrated ability in building relationships and working with young people, parents and community leaders
  • Ability to travel overnight occasionally for training
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, if needed
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Valid state driver’s license, transportation and ability to train for public service license
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Department of Children & Families preferred.
