JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the School Site Coordinator, the Program Assistant is responsible for the safety & supervision of all members at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor. The Program Assistant is also responsible for implementing programs from within the Program Plan and Core Outcome Areas (Education, Athletics, Arts, Good Character & Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles). Must be cooperative, friendly and create a safe and harmonious environment. Abide by and support the Club mission, to inspire and enable all young people to reach their full potential as caring, productive and responsible citizens.

 

Key Responsibilities

Supervise, develop, and implement programs at the School Site for youth members.

  • Maintain the up keep, safety, security and appearance of the Boys & Girls Club and school campus;
  • Maintain all required paperwork to track programs, member participation and grant documentation;
  • Coordinate & implement educational, enrichment, athletic, and spontaneous recreational activities;
  • Promote and stimulate interest in activities through bulletin board displays, newsletter, flyers, and announcements of upcoming programs by displaying enthusiasm in activities offered;
  • Assures development and implementation of Project Learn in all programs within the program plan and outcome areas;
  • Compiles monthly statistical reports reflecting all member participation and any related documentation for grants ie. contact logs; activity plans
  • Maintain all recreation equipment and facilities. Report supplies needed for facility and programs as needed to supervisor;
  • Work with staff and parents/guardians to recognize members for good work & disciplinary problems that may occur at the Club;
  • Provide direction for volunteers in order to stimulate participation in programs;
  • Must provide quality customer service by meeting and greeting the public, parents, members and outside groups who enter the facility.  Be prepared to provide guided tours and answer questions.

 

Other Duties

  • Abide by the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor Policies & Procedures;
  • Attend meetings as directed;
  • Attend trainings and workshops in the field and at the club sites as directed;
  • Attend staff meetings and other Club sponsored events;
  • Abide by Federal and State Laws;
  • Wear appropriate staff uniform while working at and/or attending Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor functions;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of School Sites and administration.
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • First Aid & CPR certified;
  • Pass TB test;
  • Pass FBI and DOJ background check;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills development and maintenance;
  • At least one year experience and knowledge with youth development principles; education programs; how youth learn; working effectively with schools, parents and others in the community to support educational achievement.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule
  • Strong interest in education and impacting member lives positively
  • Ability to work independently and in an undefined environment.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse communities
  • Ability to set own schedule
  • Familiar with Excel and Word
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Require the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend;
  • Require the mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects;
  • May require to ability to stand for long periods;
  • May require the ability to walk long distances;
  • Required to attend evening meetings and/or travel within and out of to attend meetings;
  • Required to work evenings and weekends on occasion;
  • May be required to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.

 

Environment and Working Conditions

  • Tasks are regularly performed with moderate exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, and humidity, rain, and temperature and noise extremes.
