JOB SUMMARY

The Grants Manager will work with Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s leadership team, Board of Trustees, development staff, and program staff to increase revenue by expanding institutional fundraising efforts. This position will research, write, submit and track grant initiatives; including funding through private individuals, foundations, corporations, government agencies, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) to increase operational funding. The Grants Manager will work closely with the Director of Development ensuring cohesive fundraising strategies and messaging.

 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

·         Contribute to the planning and implementation of the Resource Development Plan regarding activities relating to foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other Club fundraising efforts.

 

Resource Development

·         Work with Director of Development and Director of Operations to ensure that programs are developed, implemented and administered per grant guidelines in support of youth and teen development outcomes.

·         Write and edit corporate, foundation and government-sector proposals and reports.

·         Develop competitive proposals utilizing relevant communication strategies for donor consideration.

·         Develop a deep understanding of program content to ensure integrity and quality of proposal writing.

·         Collaborate with internal staff at all levels to accurately represent Kips Bay to corporate, foundation and government prospects and donors

·         Maintain calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports.

·         Prepare a monthly grant report based upon proposal development, submission deadlines, and probability of funding.

·         Develop a list of current and potential funding organizations to solicit, identifying grant applications and guidelines.

·         Evaluate giving trends of grantees and potential cultivation opportunities.

·         Initiate creative approaches to researching and analyzing grant-making organizations, identifying likely funding sources for specific projects and programs.

·         Provide support to leadership team and key staff for meetings with donors.

·         Maintain knowledge of sector news and best practices of philanthropy

 

Special Projects

·         Other duties and projects as assigned by Director of Development.

 

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of work experience in grant writing and fundraising with successful track record for securing significant multi-year commitments.
  • Must be registered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (www.bgca.net).
  • Attend regional and national conferences as appropriate for position and within budgetary guidelines as necessary.
  • Superior knowledge of and proven experience writing proposals to large corporate, foundation and government donors, and an understanding of technical and financial requirements for large grants.
  • Demonstrated superior writing, research, project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience crafting LOIs, concept papers, proposals, and stewardship materials with aptitude for drafting compelling case statements.
  • Must have the ability to provide leadership, strong analytical and organizational skills, excellent verbal and written skills, ability to prioritize tasks, deal with a wide variety of stakeholders, and communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to conduct and coordinate multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in working with local officials and /or state legislators a plus.
  • Experience in youth development grant writing a plus.
  • Working knowledge of donor management software (Raiser’s Edge).
  • A passion for Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s mission.
