JOB SUMMARY

Plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates all programs and activities provided in program areas of physical education and recreation. Supervises after school program workers who may be required to assist, and volunteers at Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford (BGCH).

 

Key Responsibilities

Program Development and Evaluation

·         Promotes safety of members, quality in programs, and appearance of the program area at all times.

·         Provides guidance and role modeling to members.

·         Plans, organizes, and implements a range of program services and activities for members and visitors; initiates new programs under supervision of the Unit Director; develops service area programs; and provides periodic activity reports.

·         Promotes and stimulates program participation; registers new members and participates in their club orientation process.

·         Participates in weekly unit staff meetings.

·         Advocates for the sports, fitness and recreation component of programs through BGCH.

·         Conducts athletic outreach and provides support to members who participate in school based activities.

·         Inventories all program equipment and supplies and makes recommendations concerning requisitions; maintains in good order all related supplies and equipment

·         Assists in the recruitment, training and monitoring of volunteers.

·         Supervises members in program area.

·         Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

 

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

·         Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field, or equivalent experience

·         Knowledge of youth development with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in planning and implementing youth programs.

·         Strong communications skills; oral, written, and presentation.

·         Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office preferred.

·         Obtain “coaching certificate” if necessary.

·         Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.

·         Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate volunteers.

·         Ability to deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner

·         Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.

·         Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.

·         Ability to work weekends, if needed.

·         Ability to occasionally travel overnight for training.

·         Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.

·         Valid State Drivers’ License and ability to train for Public Service License.
