JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the President/CEO, the Director of Development & Marketing plans and provides leadership for and oversight of all organization fundraising and marketing. The person in this position will lead in a fiscally prudent and competitive manner; have a “take-charge” ability tempered with diplomacy and be a proven development professional. He/she will work closely with President/CEO to develop, establish and manage comprehensive strategies for resource development and marketing, and for the execution of internal and external communications, marketing and organizational branding. He/she will work closely with organizational staff including other Vice Presidents and the President/CEO, as well as Unit/Branch staff and volunteers to achieve maximum resource development growth in the following areas: (special events, corporate & foundation giving, major gifts, planned giving, grants and annual giving), and provide maximum exposure for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia (BGCCG). He/she will be a champion for and manage the BGCCG brand including organizational-wide compliance with logo and graphic standards, mission marketing and messaging, etc.

 

Key Responsibilities

Resource Development (75%)

  • Work with President/CEO to set financial goals for annual resource development activities.
  • Leads donor stewardship activities including strategic management of donor database, acknowledgment of donor gifts, development and implementation of stewardship and cultivation activities, identification and cultivation of major gift prospects.
  • Identifies cultivates and successfully solicits gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations (generally five/six-figure gifts).
  • Conducts fundraising activities to support BGCCG services, and secures financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with major donors through the moves management process.
  • Actively engage donors and prospects at all events, cultivating and enhancing those relationships and the value of their leadership & planned gifts to Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia’s long-term mission and goals
  • Schedule and conduct regular face-to-face visits, (minimum 50 per year) donor relationship tours/visits, with current and/or potential leadership and planned gift donors and prospects. Focus on high potential “repeat event participants” to develop current and deferred planned gifts.
  • Engage newly engaged participants at events and renew existing relationships.
  • Provide consistent follow-up post event to secure commitments or move relationship forward to produce 10 – 15 new leads from each event, with “touch points” that they made at each event.
  • Retain and cultivate a personal portfolio of planned giving prospects and/or donors to steward their current and long term relationships with Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia.
  • In partnership with President/CEO, develop, implement and lead an active endowment program.

 

Marketing (15%)

  • Partner with President/CEO to develop and support the delivery of content and information including branding, newsletters, program brochures, membership brochures, signage, web content, social media content, donor stewardship communication, etc.
  • To identify the target markets within BGCCG service area and surrounding communities to promote programs and work with staff to identify opportunities. I.e. Job Fairs, Expos.
  • Provide opportunities for President/CEO or designated leadership staff to raise community awareness.
  • To be responsible for planning, organizing, and marketing special events.
  • Work closely with leadership staff on timely completion and distribution BGCCG flyers/posters, guides and marketing material.
  • Responsible in keeping all electronic advertising up to date.
  • Create a sound rapport with local area media to market programs, special events, and have articles published in the local papers. This would include creating a standard Public Service Announcement (PSA) form following Associated Press (AP) guidelines.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

General (10%)

  • Attend BGCCG events and ensure that they run smoothly by helping as needed (running registration table, handing out programs, etc.)
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study from an accredited college or university is required.
  • CFRE preferred.
  • 5 - 7 years of progressive and successful experience in fundraising, community outreach, high volume sales in a corporate environment with a minimum (3) years at a level of management.
  • Experience working with the Central Georgia philanthropic community and raising funds to sustain a fast growing organization is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with top level volunteers and identifying, cultivating and successfully soliciting and securing five and six-figure gifts from individuals and corporations.
  • 3 – 4 years of demonstrated successful grant writing experience.
  • Administrative and supervisory experience working with volunteers and staff supervision a must.
  • Computer proficiency required in customer relationship management systems, Microsoft Office software programs, and electronic giving and information exchange.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Donor Perfect, Donor Community (or similar fundraising database) and prospect research skills strongly preferred.
  • Work experience in a nonprofit environment and knowledge of Boys & Girls Clubs Operations preferred.
  • Adaptable to a variety of social settings, with knowledge and tolerance of diverse communities and ideas.
  • Persuasive strong oral and written communication skills and excellent presentation skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
  • Local travel required, along with flexibility in work hours.
