JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Development & Marketing, this position takes a primary role in positioning the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia (BGCCG) as a “charity of choice” for the investment of philanthropic contributions within the local community. The Development Manager is responsible for management two key fundraising initiatives of BGCCG; grants/proposal writing and submission, and special events.

 

The position will be a key member of a small, action-oriented Development team, reporting to and working directly with the Vice President of Development & Marketing, and closely with other senior leadership to strategically plan and implement a comprehensive fund development program with the goal of expanding the donor base and increasing revenue streams. She/he will play a vital role in growing the philanthropic revenue for an entrepreneurial, mission-driven and expanding organization. In collaboration with the Vice President of Development & Marketing, responsibilities include meeting or exceeding grants/proposals revenue and special events-related fundraising goals; acknowledging, steward and growing fundraising resources; developing and successfully implementing numerous special events and donor outreach programs throughout the year – from the annual Youth of the Year Gala to smaller stewardship events such as social connection after hours gatherings, luncheons for major donors, and events that raise funds and friends for BGCCG. Representing the organization to donors, vendors, and the public; producing various fundraising-related collateral; maintaining the donor database; and managing volunteers.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet aggressive grants and special events revenue goals and track results
  • Prepare copy for and oversee the productions timelines, preparation and publishing of all solicitation mailings
  • Manage all special events programming and develop new opportunities that align with the strategic plan and annual fundraising goals around major gift fundraising
  • Manages the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to public and private sources in order to support and achieve BGCCG philanthropic endeavors
  • Develop and integrate donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies into all special events
  • Implement annual development plan that includes short- and long-range goals for funding sources
  • Work with and through the Vice President of Development & Marketing to coordinate, plan and execute all special events
  • Seek out and develop innovative funding partnerships with organizations that further the goals of BGCCG
  • Assist with reconciling donor records
  • Oversee gift acknowledgment and donor recognition programs
  • When necessary, represent BGCCG at public events and present to donor groups, civic groups, and at other special events

Job is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. Job occasionally requires stooping bending; some very light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper or textbooks up to 20 pounds may be required. Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Promote high ethical and professional standards in all activities and with all agency staff
  • Participate in professional meetings and workshops to advance professional growth
  • Maintain ethical standards established for fundraising professionals
  • Ensure supervisor is informed of any recurring or significant problems in a timely manner
  • Minimum of 3 - 4 years of successful experience in fundraising or high volume corporate sales through direct solicitations, and/or special events experience in not-for-profit sector.
  • Proven fundraising capability; experience in building, managing, motivating, and working strategically with all stakeholders; experience with executing all aspects of event logistics, timetables, and pre- and post-event communication with vendors, sponsors, and guests; and knowledge of event production elements such as marketing collateral materials and script writing.
  • Experience writing motivating fundraising appeals and letters.
  • Superior writing, editing and verbal communications skills necessary.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and be attentive to details.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing and usual computer applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write and speak persuasively
  • Able to interact well at various levels of the organization, as well as work with a wide variety of people and personality types
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, peers, volunteers, customers and the general public
  • Ability to meet deadlines, as well as the ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, reason and solve problems
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work with multiple projects concurrently, prioritize workload, and consistently meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of teams
  • Good volunteer management skills, including the ability to effectively motivate, supervise and delegate tasks to volunteers
  • Passion for fundraising, corporate sales and for communicating BGCCG’s mission

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor information
  • Valid Georgia State Driver’s License and a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a background check
