JOB SUMMARY

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine seeks to fill the following new senior level executive position, critical to the organization’s mission of serving youth, especially those who need us most, in the communities we serve at our five Clubhouses in Southern Maine.

Challenging and rewarding new position for creative, high energy, outcome-driven senior development executive professional, inspired by the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine (BGCSM), and dedicated to fostering a culture of philanthropy and fund development within organization.

Key Roles

The Chief Development Officer shall be expected to further the culture of philanthropy within BGCSM, and lead volunteers and staff to institutionalize philanthropy and fund development within the organization. S/he coordinates and assumes implementation of strategies to develop donors and contributions to support the organization, and leads major and planned gift donor development. The CDO shall direct donor research, cultivation and stewardship. S/he directs accountability and ensures compliance standards for donors and funding sources. S/he participates with board leadership and members, CEO and staff to define organizational vision and strategies for resource development.

This position reports to the CEO and serves as part of the senior Management team. The CDO supervises the other members of the Development staff team. This position works closely with board leadership, including board volunteers leading resource development efforts to support BGCSM.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

This position requires demonstrated experience in developing, managing and implementing a comprehensive resource development program and producing charitable contributions, with demonstrated success in raising operating dollars. Knowledge and experience in the following areas is required: the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques, including face-to-face solicitations, proposal writing, special events, and development office functions including gifts processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting. Comprehensive leadership and management skills, and experience are required but not limited to: short and long term planning, evaluation, directing and motivating staff, oral and written communication, marketing and financial management. Bachelor’s degree (masters preferred) and a minimum of 10 years fundraising experience in a professional position. Membership in professional fundraising association is expected. Baseline certification in fund raising, the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Professional) is preferred.
