JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programs, within the Clubhouse, including but not limited to BGCA’s 5 core program areas: Health and Lifetime Skills; Sports, Fitness and Recreation; Education and Career Development; The Arts; Character and Leadership Development. Plan, develop and oversee implementation and supervision of assigned programs for grade school and middle school members.

 

Key Responsibilities

Prepare Youth for Success

  • Plan and oversee the administration of designated Clubhouse programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes
  • Establish Clubhouse program objectives consistent with organizational goals/mission.
  • Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
  • Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.
  • Learn about members and their interests/challenges through discussion with staff and direct interaction with children and parents.
  • Update Unit Director on regular basis regarding Club incidents, challenges and ideas.

 

Program Development and Implementation

  • Establish/maintain program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members.
  • Ensure the evaluation of assigned programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
  • Control program expenditures within approved budget.
  • Coordinate design and production of Unit’s program marketing materials.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including, activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, and notable achievements.
  • During programs, maintain safe, fun program area for participants and staff.
  • Perform related administrative duties include pre-registration, phone call reminders for payment, preparation of class lesson plans and name tags, t-shirts, required equipment/ supplies and post-class evaluations. Maintain accurate records of payments and attendance.

 

Staff Supervision

  • Recruit part-time support staff: instructors and volunteers. Manage Junior/Senior Staff in Clubhouse. Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers. Coordinate safe, productive plan of action if staff shortage or excess occurs.
  • Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal. Identify and provide training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
  • Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and that club equipment is maintained in good working condition.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Oversee specialized programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
  • Will be required to transport members in the club vehicle.
  • Participate in special events and organization fundraisers as required.

 

Relationships

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.

External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's parents and other to assist in resolving problems.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Four year degree in related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Prior work experience in a Boys or Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
  • Will be required to have - or to obtain - CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Must be able to obtain necessary license to drive club vehicle
