JOB SUMMARY
The West End House Boys & Girls Club (WEH) is an independent Boys and Girls Club in the City of Boston that has been transforming the lives of immigrant and urban youth since its founding in 1906. Our mission is to inspire and enable young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to realize their potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Our dedicated team of youth development professionals is committed to helping young people reach Academic & College Success; build Leadership & Career Development skills, engage in Visual & Performing Arts, and achieve healthy lifestyles. Our career development and employment program has experienced rapid growth in recent years– we now employ 90 teens, 60 in year round positions. The program also emphasizes training and leadership development opportunities and employment outside of the Club for our older teens. The Career Development and Employment Specialist will be in a position to influence program development, establish and strengthen community partnerships, and introduce new strategies that will transform the future of Boston’s most vulnerable youth. This position’s ultimate goal is to give our teens both the experience and the skills that will lead to meaningful, long-term careers in today’s competitive environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Recruit, hire, train, and manage a diverse cohort of teens for WEH employment and career development programs
· Develop and implement curriculum for career development program focused on leadership, career exploration, and job readiness skills such as time management, professionalism, etc.
· Incorporate social emotional learning into job training to help young people develop skills such as self-management, social awareness, persistence, and problem solving
· Identify appropriate external employment opportunities and build strong working relationships with employer partners
· Maintain relationships with employer partners and support future program development based on employer feedback.
· Build long-term trusting relationships with WEH young people
· Hours: Full-time year round, typically afternoons and evenings, Mondays through Fridays, with occasional Saturdays
Compensation and Benefits
· Salary: $38,000 - $45,000, depending on experience
· Paid vacation and 14 paid holidays per year
