JOB SUMMARY

Under the oversight and limited supervision of the Board of Directors of the Texas Alliance, and in cooperation with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Executive Director of the Texas Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs is responsible for the hands-on, daily management of the state legislative, state funding efforts and business requirements in support of the Texas Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs and the business operations and private sector fundraising and activities of the Boys & Girls Clubs in Texas.

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Government Relations

  • Provide hands-on, daily management of the state legislative and state funding efforts in support of the Texas Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.
  • Provide direction to and collaborate with contracted lobbyists.
  • Provide active guidance and technical assistance to Alliance Board of Directors, local Boys & Girls Clubs and Area Councils in regard to state legislative and government funding efforts.
  • Work with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, to provide guidance and technical assistance in regard to state legislative and government funding efforts.
  • Monitor, interpret, and disseminate information (through research and personal contact) on policies and actions of state government that impact local Boys & Girls Clubs.
  • Develop and implement a regular means of communication on key Alliance actions for local Clubs and Boards as well as Texas Area Councils.
  • Participate and assist in program development, policy determination and management decisions of the overall Texas Alliance government relations operations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of cultivation and stewardship programs for volunteers, state officials, and key staff, working collaboratively with national headquarters to set the pace for the entire organization. Work to expand statewide government activities.
  • Develop and implement a “grass roots” education and awareness campaign for key state officials.
  • Submit proposals to state and federal agencies in order to secure funds for Clubs.

 

Board of Directors

  • Provide support and appropriate input to the Board of Directors through board meetings and regular communication.
  • Coordinate meetings, support committees and maintain records of the Board.
  • Assist in board member recruitment and development.

 

Grant Administration

  • Develop, disseminate, collect, maintain and report all financial and program management requirements for funds received.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting on all grant funds.
  • Ensure regular grant invoicing and payments to Clubs.

 

Operations

  • Develop and maintain day-to-day business processes to include financial accounting and reporting, budgeting, dues collection and reporting, bylaw requirements, insurance, contract oversight, etc.
  • Recruit, supervise and evaluate professional staff in order to carry out Alliance and BGCs in TX initiatives.
  • Maintain physical office, inventory and oversight of tele-commuting staff
  • Ensure IT support is available to staff.
  • Attend Annual BGCA Conference and Southwest Leadership Conference.

 

Boys & Girls Clubs in Texas

  • Establish, coordinate and oversee the 501c3 board of directors and its activities
  • Organize and coordinate the annual state summit including TX Youth of the Year, Combined Area Council and Legislative Day.
  • Provide adequate financial and corporate oversight for the Boys & Girls Clubs in Texas
  • Develop and implement the Texas Boys & Girls Clubs Hall of Fame on an annual basis.
  • Submit grant proposals in order to secure funds and resources for Clubs.

 

Private Sector

  • Develop avenues through the Board and other resources to cultivate and steward private sector partnerships and engagement with the Texas Alliance and its Mission including program and funding opportunities for Texas Boys & Girls Clubs.
  • Manage and oversee private sector sponsored events and funding.
Requirements



KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Must possess a strong understanding of the Boys and Girls Club Mission and the inner-workings of a local Boys & Girls Club, especially the importance of the relationship between a board and its staff.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated ability to work with a state legislature and state departments to generate funding, both government and private, for Clubs or a related youth development program.
  • They must be able to demonstrate competence in time management and prioritization, issue analysis, board and committee support, financial and grant management, handling of multiple tasks, supervision and management of staff; developing and implementing annual budgets and budget oversight; experience in strategic planning; possess event planning and oversight skills; strong interpersonal and negotiation skills; computer literacy using word processing, databases, spreadsheets and presentation software; excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking; detail and task oriented; a team player with collaboration skills.
