JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of all programs within the Club, with the exception of athletics. To manage all program staff to ensure successful program planning and implementation. To serve as a liaison between parents, schools, community groups and Club members. Works under the Executive Director and Director of Operations to guarantee that a myriad of pro-social and youth development opportunities are available to all Club members, in a healthy and safe environment. Provides orientation and guidance for parents and Club members. Assists Assistant Program Director with scheduling staff and programs.

 

Secondary Function

Summer Director

 In coordination with the Athletic Director, plan and implement our eight week summer program. Including, but not limited to, assist in recruiting and hiring of summer staff members, planning and implementing recreational, athletic and educational programs, preparing program and staff schedules. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all summer program members throughout the duration of the eight week program.

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Plan, oversee and support all programs and program staff to ensure positive Youth Development outcomes.
  • Establish Club program objectives which are consistent with organization goals and mission of the Boys & Girls Club of America and Nantucket Boys & Girls Club
  • Oversee the provision of day to day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals
  • Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive guidance and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s)
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure appropriate conduct, safety and development of members
  • Provide annual evaluations of all program staff
  • Constantly evaluate program facilities and equipment to ensure the safety of all Club members, visitors and staff members; relaying any issues to the Director of Operations for immediate attention.
  • Consult with Club parents concerning member and Club issues.
  • Control Club program and activity expenses within approved budget – all expenditures must be approved by the Director of Operations or Executive Director.
  • Allocate and monitor work/responsibilities assigned to Program Volunteers to ensure productive and effective performance.
  • Increase visibility and awareness of Club programs via posting of daily schedule and upcoming events. Work with Development Director to effectively promote events with printed fliers, electronic newsletter, and all social media outlets.
  • When needed – oversee special programs (i.e. Torch Club, Youth of the Year, Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other activities as necessary.
  • Plan and participate in Club special events and parties: Family Night, Diversity Night, Halloween, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Martin Luther King Day, Easter, Patriots Day, Independence Day and other special events which may occur.
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of three years’ work experience in youth development
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the general public
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics with program staff
  • Demonstrated ability to manage
  • Capable of maintaining a safe environment where all members are appropriately supervised
  • Valid driver’s license, with ability to drive Club vans
  • CPR, AED and first aid certified; lifeguard certification also strongly encouraged
  • Bilingual preferred

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to continuously stand and walk for extended amounts of time
  • Willing and able to participate in all Club programs and athletics
  • Have the ability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift frequently (up to 50 pounds on occasion)
  • Be willing and able to be outdoors during all seasons
