JOB SUMMARY            Part Time Only

Directs/manage overall daily operation of the Teen Center and overall Teen Programming with the primary concern for program planning and service development, implementation, and supervision of program/staff; community relations (teen outreach).  

 

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities)

Prepare Youth for Success

  • Plan and oversee the administration of the teen center programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes:
  • Establish teen center program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
  • Oversee the day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standard and goals.
  • Ensure programs, services and activities that prepare youth for success, promoting safety of members and quality in programs at all times.
  • Provide guidance and role model to members.
  • Provide up to date case management and help guide youth to outside resources so they can meet their academic and life goals.

 

Program Development and Implementation

  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of the strategic plan by:
  • Planning, organizing and implementing the Club Experience for teens who are developmentally appropriate and significantly different from that of younger members. It emphasizes more privileges, responsibility, greater input and ownership. 
  • Planning, organizing, and implementing a fun, impactful program for teens, incorporating the
  • Five core program areas.
  • Ensure the involvement of teens in the development and implementation of programs and activities that meet their specific needs and interests.
  • Initiating new programs with the approval Area coordinator of Teen Services and Branch Coordinator
  • Recommending the development of service area programs and promoting and stimulating program participation.
  • Recommend requisitions, as necessary, controlling expenditures within approved budget.
  • Ensure a quality nutritional program for the Club by promoting good eating habits.
  • Organize, develop, coordinate and implement Leadership programs, which may include but not limited to: Keystone Club, Leaders In Training (LIT) Program and/or Youth of the Year.
  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity

 

Supervision

  • Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal.  Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.
  • Ensure productive and effective performance and to include volunteers and staff.

 

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Develop partnership with parents, community leaders and organizations.  Act as a liaison between Middle and High Schools and the Club.  Represent the Club at necessary school meetings and functions.
  • Develop and implement a Teen Membership Outreach, Recruitment and Retention plan.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, supervising members in program area.
  • Manage department and ensure a productive work environment, maintaining an inventory of all equipment and supplies in good order.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist in driving the Club’s vehicle as directed.
  • Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in Club wide activity.
  • Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
  • Responsible for the organization, coordination, & implementation of Teen program, budget and essential reports.
  • Make ethical decisions and adhere to Organization’s Code of Ethics 

 

Relationships

Internal:  Maintain close daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information.   Has regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advice, and counsel.

External:  Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervises and motivates staff.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Ability to work weekends and evening as directed.
  • Possess a valid Red Cross certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must have a valid California Drivers’ License, with clean driving record.
  • Regularly sits at a computer station and operates electronic equipment.
  • Frequently lifts, carries and positions objects weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Typically stands, bends, stoops and crouches.
  • Regularly moves about the facility to coordinate work.
