Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is in the midst of an unprecedented transformation requiring an entrepreneurial and strategically oriented leader to serve as Director, Distance Learning, Program, Training & Youth Development Services. Reporting to the Senior Director, Learning Strategies, Training & Professional Development, the Director Distance Learning will ensure the production, development, implementation, evaluation, report and maintenance of an array of distance-learning solutions for Boys & Girls Club professionals to meet their learning needs, support their professional growth and development and support the strategic goals of BGCA
Physically located in Atlanta, Ga., the Director, Distance Learning must be a culture leader, establishing a creative and relentlessly focus on impact that balances big-picture ideas with a rootedness in the realities of how to provide learning across the more than 3,700 Clubs that define the BGCA federated model of impact. This position maintains specific focus on the eLearning needs of youth development and management professionals by designing and developing pedagogically sound activities and assessment strategies for instructor-led learning and creating content to support the development of eLearning, virtual instructor-led, and blended learning objects. He/she will deliver on innovative thinking and business-changing recommendations that will inform the core of our youth development and social impact work.
The Director must be able to build and manage powerful relationships to represent the interests of the Program, Training & Youth Development Services (PTYDS) department, partnering with Organizational & Executive Development Services (OEDS), Planning & Measurement, Resource Development, Marketing & Communications (including graphic), Government Relations, IT and corporate partners and others. This person must have strong consultation, organizational development, and project management expertise. He/she must also have a working knowledge and be comfortable contributing to the analysis and translation of outcome measures and research findings to help drive program outcomes, organizational learning and impact.
A primary responsibility of this job is to contribute to strategies and deliver tactics to help transform Boys & Girls Club facilities into Centers of Excellence, filled with a mix of innovative programs and services that meet the needs and interests of youth attending. The ideal candidate possesses a high level of technical expertise in the areas of course design and development with advanced knowledge of course authoring software including but not limited to Adobe Presenter, Captivate, Articulate Storyline or other comparable eLearning authoring applications. He/She must be well versed in development of Web-based instructions, and have prior experience with SCORM Packaging and Publication to support alignment to course learning management systems. Experience with Tin Can, HTML, HTML 5 and XML is highly preferred.
The candidate must have basic experience in graphic, audio and or video editing to support online content delivery along with an extensive background in youth development, digital engagement, and curriculum design and development. The Director is a driver of impact, strengthening Clubs’ understanding of positive youth development and presenting them with the tools and resources needed to provide world-class services aligned around three priority outcome areas (Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles). He/she must begin work with a high level of appreciation for the mission of the Boys & Girls Club Movement and an ability to quickly understand the literature relevant to the three priority outcome areas.
