Location:Position based at National Headquarters, 1275 Peachtree Street, NE, Atlanta, GA 30309.


Relocation: Reimbursement for relocation per our current policy is available for this position.


Telecommuting:Not applicable for this position.


Travel: Normal internal office environment. Travel estimated at 60-70% (can be 12 to 14 days or more in a month – including weekends – depending on scheduling requirements).


Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Senior Vice President, Field Operations and in close collaboration with the President/CEO and Senior Vice President & General Counsel, the National Vice President, Child & Club Safety (NVP) will provide strategic leadership and direction for Boys & Girls Clubs of America's (BGCA) child safety and advocacy agenda, both nationally and with local BGC organizations. The NVP will drive extensive collaboration with organizations and key networks, including but not limited to leading out-of-school time (OST) programs and other child safety experts. The NVP is responsible for national partnerships, the leadership and direction of the National Child Safety Taskforce and the Child and Club Safety Committee of the Board of Governors. This position will represent BGCA as one of its national spokespersons on child safety.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Child Advocacy Leadership
• Ensure that BGCA has standards and measures in place that define effective safety practices, identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks for local Clubs;
• Review, analyze and adapt BGCA’s child safety strategy to ensure relevance on a consistent basis;
• Build the capacity of staff and volunteers to help prepare them to better protect youth from harm;
• Develop strategies for education and empowerment on safety issues;
• Develop strategies for ongoing youth, family and community engagement;
• Improve the awareness and skills of youth professionals and volunteers at all levels within local BGC organizations;
• Oversee all Child & Club Safety Department initiatives and related work;
• Lead and develop assigned staff.

Collaboration and Partnership Development
• Identify meaningful opportunities for Club youth and families to discuss their perspectives on safety, especially for OST programs;
• Engage youth, families and communities to support and drive youth protection;
• Launch and engage non-partisan networks to sustain meaningful collaborations among national and local youth serving organizations and youth groups;
• Partner with Resource Development to ensure funding for critical initiatives and priorities to promote safer childhoods.

Systems, Compliance and Analysis
• Develop and activate competency based training for local and national staff;
• Ensure that BGCA consistently expands and deepens its youth protection learning systems (face to face and electronically), including building and activating strong national training associates, identifying and selecting expert partners, activating a certification process, and scaling a proven governance model to support staff in local Clubs;
• Determine, track and report appropriate metrics that demonstrate the progression of realization of this vision.


Training, Resources, and Consultation
• Develop, promote, maintain and update tools and resources for local Clubs such as policy and procedure templates, checklists, newsletters, and training programs that can be delivered locally.
• Provide direct technical assistance to local Clubs via on site assessments, emails and telephone.
• Identify potential risks/issues at local Clubs and proactively address through online and face-to-face training.
• Advise local organizations on risk management, loss prevention, and insurance practices.
• Provide training, consultation and recommendations regarding background checks, incident management systems and other related systems.


Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree in risk management or related discipline preferred.

Experience:
12 - 15 years' experience in relevant field; demonstrated success in leading and developing staff, and demonstrated successful experience in conducting media/public relations in high profile issues.

Skills:
Demonstrated expert knowledge of child protection practices; must have exceptional communication skills: written, verbal and interpersonal. Ability to influence others to make needed changes without having authority to mandate change. Demonstrated high standards of ethics and integrity; demonstrated passion for child safety; ability to collect and analyze data and information to make sound decisions. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and projects. Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to work across departments and with external sources/resources to achieve desired results
