ABA is currently seeking a Vice President of Public Relations who will develop and execute ABA’s public relations strategy for government relations, regulatory issues (including regulatory relief, regulatory agencies, etc.) and other areas as assigned. S/he would also manage all media relations surrounding these topics with proactive and reactive tactics.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Acting as on-the-record spokesperson with national media on government relations priority issues, including highly sensitive ones.

• Working closely with senior ABA staff to develop and communicate ABA messages on government relations issues to the media. Working with PR team to develop messaging when non-government relations issues move to the Hill.

• Engaging on a daily basis with national and local media outlets, both in response to queries and proactively to get out ABA messaging on critical legislative and regulatory issues.

• Enhancing relationships with financial services reporters and possessesing proven media placement skills.

• Acting as primary ABA contact for external industry groups/joint trades communications strategy on government relations issues as needed.

• Developing and directing execution of PR strategy on behalf of internal clients.

• Offering strategy and PR support to ABA's BankPac committee and Fund for Economic Growth.

• Developing and supervising execution of strategies for promoting ABA’s Government Relations Summit and other events as assigned.

Requirements Minimum of seven years relevant experience in public relations, journalism, banking, government or trade associations.

4-year degree required, major in journalism, public relations or communications preferred

Ability to take complicated issues and create comprehensible messages that support ABA policy positions.

Excellent writing skills required.

Ability to cultivate relationships with financial services reporters and proven media placement skills.
